What is Pysanky?
Writing Pysanky, or Ukrainian Eggs, is a method of decorating eggs using a technique similar to batik.
Intricate designs, patterns and motifs are written onto the egg by melting beeswax with a specialized tool called Kistka. The egg is then placed in a succession of colored dyes (from lightest to darkest), with more wax designs applied between the dyes. After the final color, the wax is then removed and the beautiful designs are revealed.
